Elden Ring player finds twisted Dark Souls reference none of us knew about

Elden Ring player finds twisted Dark Souls reference none of us knew about

There's always one more secret to find

It’s no surprise that Fromsoftware has been hiding things from us. Whether it’s cool secrets tucked away in the enormous world of Elden Ring, or perhaps some reused character models that link their games together.

We just reach a point where we think we know everything and suddenly a dataminer discovers something new and blows our minds.

We're getting more and more excited for the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree

In this instance, a dataminer called Zullie the Witch has uncovered a connection between Elden Ring and Dark Souls and it revolves around the Omenkiller enemy.

The Omenkiller is a large humanoid enemy who wields two swords and uses very similar attacks to the Capra Demon from Dark Souls. No big deal, Fromsoft used several assets from older games to bulk out the enormous Elden Ring.

The two have always been similar and players have noted this in the past, however, the connection runs deeper but it can’t be found unless we take a look deeper into the character model itself.

It seems the wire mesh skeleton used to animate the Omenkiller still has the Capra Demon’s tail, despite not featuring one visually. Although it lacks the tail, the Omenkiller features the same poses and animations that we see when fighting it.

So, they’re linked by a tail. Or, by not having a tail.

While this may not come as a huge surprise, it does show how sneaky Fromsoft is in reusing animations to cut down on work needed from the team. Especially when 95% of players will likely never put two and two together.

Perhaps this will be seen further in the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, when we veer away from The Lands Between and start to discover new enemies. Regardless, these tidbits of information only stoke the hype train further and make us more excited to return to the game.
