Fallout 4 players blast 'hardly noticeable' improved graphics in new-gen update

Yesterday saw the long-awaited arrival of Fallout 4’s new-gen update which promised a whole lot of fixes. However, players are already disappointed with the seemingly unnoticeable upgrades.

Following the ongoing hype as a result of Amazon Prime’s hit adaptation, Fallout, both new and old players are returning to the wastelands of Bethesda’s long-running series.

With Fallout 4 recently hitting its highest concurrent players in eight years and the series as a whole surpassing 5 million players in just one day, it is going from strength to strength.

As a result, Bethesda’s new-gen update for Fallout 4 came at the perfect time with the free download adding PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S support.

However, the update has not been received as well as Bethesda would have hoped as players are already disappointed with the PS5’s “hardly noticeable” graphic improvements. Not only that, but the patch as a whole is unplayable for some.

The new-gen update promised players 60fps support and 4K textures to Bethesda's 2015 RPG. On paper, this would make quite a substantial difference to an ageing game. However, courtesy of a YouTube video by Push Square, there are not many noticeable differences.

So much so, that many players took to the comments to express their confusion with one saying: “I miss the days when console generations meant something and you could easily tell the difference from one to the next.”

Oops! However, it seemed like this was the general consensus with another adding: “Wow, I don’t think I spotted a single difference.”

On the other hand, those with a more trained eye did notice some differences, especially in regards to lighting. They were also quick to point out that the biggest difference would be in how smooth Fallout 4 would now run courtesy of the 60fps support.

Needless to say, with a free new-gen update, you can’t complain too much and with many fans returning to the game, it is nice to see Fallout 4 get its revival.
