Marvel Movies Saved Cinema After Lockdown, Says Jared Leto

So Covid is still knocking around, and with the latest surge in cases many are just as cautious as ever about leaving the house.
With everyone getting used to watching things in the comfort of your own home, it hasn't been easy to pull people back into the cinema. However, a few films have managed to become box office hits despite the difficulties.

As you may have noticed, many of the big hitters feature superheroes. Whether that's the three Spider-Men finally uniting in Spider-Man: No Way Home, or Robert Pattinson's even darker take on the Dark Knight in The Batman, it's the people of spandex that have been making the big bucks.
Now in an interview with Variety, Jared Leto, star of Morbius, a new film based on an old Marvel super/antihero, has expressed that he thinks Marvel films have saved cinema. Leto made a name for himself as an actor starring in a number of gritty cult classics such as American Psycho, Requiem For A Dream and Fight Club. However, it now appears he is backing the mainstream.
“I know how important that was for me as a kid, escaping to the movies. That cultural experience was quite informative and impactful, - I saw movies in theaters that changed my life.” Despite his reverence for the arthouse films which made him, he claims it is the blockbusters which have saved the big screen as we know it.
“If it wasn’t for Marvel films, I don’t even know if (movie) theaters would exist. It doesn’t seem like there’s room for everyone, and that starts to become a little heartbreaking. I also have gratitude for these movies because they’re keeping cinema alive.”
So if you're sick of superheroes, it seems the way to counteract the trend is to go to the cinema and watch literally anything else. Or if you love a man in a cape, time to rejoice, because it appears there is plenty more to come.
