Nintendo Switch 2 officially announced in true Nintendo fashion

Nintendo Switch 2 officially announced in true Nintendo fashion

In the words of a fan, "Never change, Nintendo."

We’ve been waiting for official news of the Nintendo Switch 2 for what feels like a lifetime, and now we have it, and it’s true to Nintendo’s way of doing things.

The Nintendo Switch is a thing of beauty.

Yet, it’s getting to the end of its life cycle; it’s been nine years, and with that passage of time has come obvious signs of wear. Sadly, the Switch is struggling to keep up with new games.

As such, we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for Nintendo to tell us when its successor will launch.

Conflicting information has circulated about the console for years, with a recent specs leak leading us to wonder if the next Switch will be as powerful as we first thought.

Only days later, president of Nintendo, Furukawa, tweeted about the Switch’s successor.

“We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” reads the opening line, which you can all agree is quite the opener.

From there the post continues, “We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

If that isn’t the most Nintendo way to make a big announcement, you’ve clearly not followed the brand for long.

We’re not alone in feeling this way – other fans are amused by this news.

“Possibly the most casual way to announce the Switch 2 ever,” joked Twitter user @Bucky_cm. “Never change Nintendo, never change.”

Others are still in disbelief that it’s finally happening; it has felt like this day would never come. Consequently, fans are behaving totally normally about the news – by which we mean ridiculously hyped.

“LETS F**KING GOOOOO,” is the collective response from much of the Nintendo community right now, ourselves included.

*Article update: the journalist who first broke the news that the Nintendo Switch 2 would launch in 2025 has made a video stating that nothing has changed since his initial report. Consequently, it does seem that Nintendo won't be revealing any Switch 2 hardware in the upcoming Nintendo Direct.
