Steam's latest free download is brutal a 9/10 shooter

Call of Duty fans may want to check out fan-favourite shooter Trepang2

Anyone who is into gaming will attest that it’s not exactly a cheap hobby. The latest releases can set us back up to £70, and then there’s the price of our hardware and subscriptions to consider.

With that in mind, the concept of ‘try before you buy’ is more important than ever. It’s a pretty big leap of faith to drop all of that money on a sequel or new IP that you’re not exactly sure about.

Demos give us both confidence and peace of mind that either a game isn’t for us or it is indeed exactly what we want to purchase.

If you’re a PC gamer, then I’m sure you’re aware that Steam is packed to the rafters with free demos ready and waiting for you to sample them.

The demo that I’d like to draw your attention to today is for Trepang Studios’ Trepang2, a recent first-person shooter that’s secured a score of nine out of 10 from its players.

Sand Land is out now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox with a free demo available across all storefronts.

Trepang2 may have flown under your radar, having been released in June of 2023. Let’s face it, 2023 was a chaotically busy year.

June was the month that brought us 2023’s Summer Game Fest announcements, Street Fighter 6, Diablo IV, and Final Fantasy XVI.

Described as a “gory action-packed FPS set in the near future,” Trepang2 should appeal to those of you who enjoy Call of Duty and Escape From Tarkov.

“Unleash all hell on your enemies, dodge bullets and leave a trail of destruction in this hardcore and frenetic shooter,” reads the synopsis.

As for what players think, Trepang2 boasts a ‘Very Positive’ rating of 90% over on Steam.

“Hands down one of the best FPS games I have ever played, and the first game that pushed me to go for gold, do everything, get everything, and I had fun doing it,” one review read.

“Fun, old-school shooter that's very similar to FEAR,” said another.

The free demo is available for you to enjoy now over on Steam and should you enjoy it, you can currently pick up the full game for £14.99.

This offer only runs until 6pm BST today, in around four hours time at the time of writing, so you’ll have to act fast.

After this, it’s expected that Trepang2 will revert back to its regular price of £24.99. Of course, the free demo will remain available.
