Skyrim gets wonderful fan expansion that makes the game feel new again

Explore the lands of Skyrim with something new

As beautiful as The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim’s original soundtrack is, sometimes you just need something a bit different and one fan creation has managed just that by putting a unique spin on the RPG’s accompanying music.

I think we can all agree that one of the highlights of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is its soundtrack. Composed by Jeremy Soule, the haunting music encapsulates the setting of Skyrim perfectly and follows the player from start to finish.

However, LORKHAN by Nexus Mods user youngscrolls is a mod that aims to add 3 hours of lore-friendly and high quality original music to the game.

Available for both the base game and DLCS, LORKHAN provides a unique and different vibe to the original soundtrack by including “less ambient instrumentation” as well as bespoke pieces that feature in Skyrim’s most important moments.

For example, custom music will swell during the Helgen cart introduction as well as the Solstheim boat arrival, shooting Auriel's bow and the ascent to High Hrothgar.

Not only that but LORKHAN also brings greater variety to the soundtrack by paying close attention to the different regions in the game. Its creator wanted to pay homage to cultures and inspirations shown in the game whilst remaining respectful.

As a result, mainland Skyrim features the sounds of the tagelharpa, an instrument from Scandinavia and Solstheim features more ambient and natural sounds to reflect it being based far from civilisation.

Haunting organs and cellos can be heard when entering the halls of Castle Volkihar and “The Forgotten Vale is flooded with solemn elven voices and distant bells - remnants of an extinct culture.”

There is no denying that this is an ambitious project but with many players still exploring the lands of Skyrim to this day, there is no harm in listening to something new along the way.
