At least officially, little is known about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title dubbed “Project Hexe” but a few new details have been making the internet rounds recently and it looks to be bringing back an underrated feature of the series.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe was first revealed in 2022 alongside the mobile game Assassin’s Creed Jade as well as Assassin’s Creed Red, the latter of which is going to be set in feudal Japan and is expected to be released later this year. When Assassin's Creed Hexe is finally released, it’s said to have a much darker tone than other entries from the popular Ubisoft series with a focus on 16th-century witchcraft set in Central Europe during the Roman Empire.

From what previous rumours have led us to believe, Assassin’s Creed Hexe will feature a female protagonist named Elsa, and perhaps take inspiration from 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage as it will leave huge open worlds behind and will reportedly be more of a linear experience.

However, other details have emerged courtesy of an exclusive report from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, a known leaker of information within the video game industry. One of the returning features said to be back in Assassin’s Creed Hexe is the fear system that was implemented in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate DLC, ‘Jack the Ripper’.
The ‘Jack the Ripper’ DLC is set roughly two years after the events of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and in it, you mostly play as Evie Frye, twin sister of Jacob. One of the new weapons in the DLC was the Fear bomb and as the name of the weapon suggests, it induces fear in the enemies of the Frye twins.
According to the report from Tom Henderson, Ubisoft is bringing back this feature in Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which would be suited to its rumoured dark tone of the game. Of course, these are unconfirmed rumours at this time, so we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe doesn't have a release date at the time of writing but it is expected to be released in 2026.
