GTA 6 file size set to be much more reasonable than we imagined

GTA 6 file size set to be much more reasonable than we imagined

GTA VI is going to be huge!

Despite being announced at the end of last year, it seems that the Grand Theft Auto VI rumour mill continues to spin at full steam ahead.

After years of rumours, GTA VI was finally revealed to the world in December 2023 with its first official trailer and it did not disappoint. The GTA VI trailer has been smashing records since its reveal as fans eagerly await the arrival of the next trailer that will hopefully give us a taste of what lies beyond the returning Miami-inspired location of Vice City.

Check out the GTA VI trailer below!

Given the mass hype and the YouTube trailer edging closer to 200 million views, not to mention that GTA V is one of the most successful video games of all time, it’s safe to assume that GTA VI is on course to becoming a massive deal, not only in terms of critical reception but in sheer scope too.

A lot of speculation has led us to believe that GTA VI will have the highest RRP at retail when it finally arrives next year. Moreover, assuming that GTA VI will likely provide the biggest and most immersive open-world map seen in video games, we can expect it to take up a large chunk of hard drive space.

With that in mind, fans of the Grand Theft Auto series wonder whether it might be time to increase their hard drive space on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As reported by GTA6Intel, it has been speculated that GTA VI could demand just under 200GB at launch.

The estimate was made as a result of GTA VI leaks that were making the rounds in 2022 with the leaked early build coming in at an estimated 80GB. This led Reddit user Denso95 to analyse the leaked build and concluded that GTA VI would be just under 200GB.

That being said, given the size of many current-gen titles weighing between 150GB to 200+GB for the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the estimated GTA VI file size should come as no surprise. However, if GTA VI is 200GB at launch, given the fact that it will receive post-launch updates and added content, it’s safe to assume that 200GB could be a minimum estimate.

The file size is an estimate at this time because Rockstar Games hasn’t officially revealed how much hard drive space GTA VI will gobble up but 200GB doesn't seem that bad all things considered. Hopefully, we’ll learn just how much space GTA VI will require in the coming months.

GTA VI will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC launch hasn't been announced yet, but we’re sure that will be announced soon.
